CQC registration help for new care providers

CQC registration is the legal step every new care provider in England must complete before delivering a regulated activity. We prepare your whole application — statement of purpose, service-specific evidence, and nominated individual and registered manager readiness — and review it in full before it reaches CQC.

What CQC registration involves

One application, assessed as a single, consistent picture of your service.

A CQC registration application is not a single form. It brings together a statement of purpose, a description of each regulated activity and service type, evidence about your premises, and separate applications for your nominated individual and registered manager.

CQC assesses all of it together and checks that every part agrees with every other part. An application that is internally inconsistent, or that uses generic wording that could describe any provider, is the most common reason for delay.

Pairs well with

What we prepare

Everything that goes into the application, checked before it goes in.

  • A statement of purpose that matches the regulated activities and service types you are applying for
  • A service description written for your specific model of care, not a generic template
  • Nominated individual and registered manager application forms and supporting documents
  • Fit and proper person evidence for directors, the nominated individual, and the registered manager
  • DBS, right to work, references, and qualification records assembled against CQC's checklist
  • Policies and procedures that CQC can see are in place and in use

We draft and refine your statement of purpose so it is consistent with every other part of the application.

04

Full review

We check the complete application against CQC's requirements before you submit anything.

05

Submission and questions

You submit through the CQC provider portal, and we help you respond to any questions CQC raises during assessment.

What to expect

Realistic timelines for CQC registration

CQC now returns or rejects applications that are incomplete or inaccurate at the point of submission, with no opportunity to add missing documents afterwards. A rejected application means starting the submission again from scratch.

This is why our work focuses on completeness before submission rather than fixing problems later. Once CQC accepts a complete application for assessment, a processing time of around 10 to 12 weeks is realistic, and the whole journey from first enquiry to a granted registration usually takes three to six months.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How long does CQC registration take?

CQC registration usually takes three to six months from first enquiry to a granted registration, with the formal assessment of a complete application taking around 10 to 12 weeks. Timelines lengthen if the application is incomplete, if evidence is inconsistent, or if the nominated individual or registered manager is not ready for interview.

How much does CQC registration cost?

CQC does not charge an upfront fee to apply for registration. Once your registration takes effect, an annual provider fee applies, set by your service type and size — for community and home care that is a banded fee based on how many people you support, per location. The costs to plan for before then are things like DBS checks, policies and procedures, systems, and any consultancy support.

What happens if my CQC application is incomplete?

CQC now checks applications for completeness and accuracy on receipt and rejects those that fall short, rather than coming back with a list of what is missing. A rejected application has to be corrected and submitted again from the start, which is why our work focuses on getting it right before it goes in.

Do I need a registered manager before I apply?

Yes, in almost all cases you must name a registered manager on your application, and they need to be ready to evidence that they meet the fit and proper person requirements. The registered manager normally applies at the same time as the provider, and CQC does not charge a separate fee for the registered manager application.

Can you submit the CQC application for me?

No, the application is submitted by the provider through the CQC provider portal, and the nominated individual must make the declarations personally. We prepare and review everything that goes into it and support you through CQC's questions during assessment.

What is a statement of purpose?

A statement of purpose is the document that tells CQC who you are, which regulated activities and service types you are registering for, where you will operate, and how you will deliver care. CQC treats it as a reference point throughout registration and inspection, so it must be accurate and consistent with the rest of your application.
